Prevalence rate of depression
Depression is an increasingly common mental disease. It has been the world’s second largest disease. As early as in 2007, a study reported a prevalence rate of 8.4% for depression in Hong Kong, which is equivalent to more than 600,000 Hong Kong people suffering from depression.
However, only 24.5% of them had received professional treatment, and most of them had not received any treatment.
According to a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Mental Health Association in 2017, it is estimated that 9.1% of Hong Kong people have depressive symptoms that require attention, and 5.5% of them have met the clinical diagnostic criteria of depression.
It has shown that the depression among Hong Kong people has not been improved in the past decade, but even worsened.
